Manus challenges Buakaw - Muay Thai

Manus, won gold at the 2004 and silver at the 2008 Olympics Games, said he liked Muay Thai after a recent exhibition match in his home province of Ratchaburi. He  is now a changed man and has been training hard for a successful career in the country's traditional martial art.

Manus challenges Buakaw

Bangkokpost reports:
He ridiculed a reported match-up between Muay Thai superstar Buakaw Banchamek  and Filipino Manny Pacquiao, one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in international boxing.
"Who will pay about 90 million baht to bring Pacquiao to fight here?" Manus asked.
He said it would be risky for Buakaw to face a fighter who is good at punching because he could be fragile to the weapon.
"Everybody knows this fight cannot be happen because Buakaw has a fight on December and it is illegal to fight within 15 days"
"Everybody in Thailand's boxing circle knows that Buakaw cannot be punched," Manus said.
"I don't know who raised the idea of pitting him against Pacquiao."
" The possible dream fight should be Buakaw vs Somluck .But look like Buakaw was afraid of Somluck in both international boxing and Muay Thai rules "
He then challenged Buakaw to fight him instead.
"If there is anyone who is interested in promoting a fight between Buakaw and me although my body is not in good condition as Buakaw, I am ready to give him a few boxing lessons," he said.

I prefer Buakaw than Manus and I think he just want to be  famous again by fight with Buakaw.

Buakaw's existing contract with Thai Fight

October 8, 2012. Mr. Nopparat Puttarattamamane disclosed that Sport Art Co. Ltd., the organiser of Thai Fight, holds all rights to decide which fights Buakaw will participate in until  December 31, 2012. Under Buakaw's existing contract with them, anyone who wishes to arrange for Buakaw to participate in any fight will have to go through Sport Art Co. & seek their approval first.

In addition, Sport Art Co.'s key policy is for Buakaw to act as an ambassador for Muaythai to popularise the sport around the world, as he is well-known internationally. Therefore, Buakaw will fight only against foreign opponents and not Thai opponents. As such, a fight with Somrak Kamsing, the 39-year-old former Olympic gold medalist who recently issued Buakaw a challenge in the news, is impossible. Thai Fight also thinks that it is improper for them to fight, as regardless of whether Buakaw wins or loses, it will be not be good for his image.

As for news reports claiming that Buakaw will fight Manny Pacquiao in a Western-style boxing match on  December
21, 2012 in Thailand, Sport Art Co., which has the full power to decide who Buakaw fights until the end of 2012, had never known about this proposed fight before. In any case, Sport Art Co. thinks that the chances of it happening are close to nil. This is because Manny is scheduled to fight with Marquez on  December 8, 2012, & Buakaw is required to fight in the final round of Thai Fight 2012 on  December 16, 2012. Buakaw will violate the Boxing Act if he takes part in a fight less than 15 days after his previous one.

The first round of Thai Fight 2012 will be held on  October
23, 2012 at Chanchai Acadium, Bangkokthonburi University. It will be followed by a second round on 25 November 2012 in Nakhon Ratchasima. The finals on  December 16,2012 will be held at the Royal Plaza in Bangkok. The  October
23, 2012 event will feature Singmanee Kaewsamrit in the 67 kg division and Buakaw in the 70 kg division. It will be telecast live from 1:20PM onwards on Thai Channel 3. Petchtanong Banchamek, Buakaw's main student who recently clinched the WBC muay thai championship belt, & whom Buakaw is grooming to be his successor, will also put on a show of his skills together with foreign fighters. There are plans for Petchtanong to take part in Thai Fight 2013, which will have the format of a reality show involving both Thai & foreign fighters. This is to give the audience an insight into their lives & showcase Thai culture & traditions to the world.

Buakaw eyes two fights to cap final glory

Bangkokpost reported:

The two time K-1 MAX champion  Buakaw Banchamek  will defend his Thai Fight welterweight title in Bangkok on Oct 23 and then cap off his sterling career with a super-fight against Italian K1 hot shot Giorgio Petrosyan.

Buakaw will fight Giorgio Petrosyan

"
Muay Thai superstar Buakaw Por Pramuk will defend his Thai Fight title on October.
Speaking to reporters at the KO Promotions seminar in Dubai last weekend, Buakaw, 30, said his next two fights on Thai soil would be "to honour Thailand and for all my fans."
Buakaw and Singmanee Sor Srisomphong are the two Thai top guns who will represent Thailand in the Thai Fight finals.
Buakaw said,"I support Thai Fight because it is shown on TV around Thailand and all my Thai fans can watch me fight. I also want to do a special fight event in Surin where I come from and where I first learnt to fight Muay Thai when I was young. It is good to remember where I come from," Buakaw said.
Although he's training up to six hours a day, Buakaw said he's moved on from the grind of fighting against elite competition at Bangkok's stadiums.
"Lumpinee and Rajadamnern have the best young stars with their future still ahead of them. I've been fighting from the age of seven. I have moved on and won't be fighting much more in Thailand and looking to become a travelling trainer. I really like teaching Muay Thai in other countries. It's great for Thailand and good for me," he said.
Buakaw confirmed that negotiations had been held with 26-year-old Petrosyan to fight in Surin. The only stumbling block for the fight is that Petrosyan prefers to fight K1 rules without elbows, knees and grappling weapons.
And while Buakaw is a K1 master  having won two K1 Max titles , he knows that Thailand's boxing fraternity would expect full Muay Thai rules as the order of the day for the event to be staged at the Surin provincial stadium on National Muay Thai Day on Feb 6, 2013.
Meanwhile, this Thursday's event at Rajadamnern, apart from featuring a great rivalry match-up between "Diamond Champion" Saenchai PK (Sor Kingstar) and "Black Lion" Singdum Kiatmoo 9, is creating a lot of hoopla with 1996 Olympic boxing champion Somluck Kamsing set to fight veteran Yodwanpadet Suwanwichit for a reported winner-takes-all purse of 5,270,000 baht.
As a sign of how serious this fight is, a deposit of 1,054,000 baht has already been tabled that will go the fighter whose opponent fails to make it into the ring.
Somluck said he has never trained harder for either an international boxing or a Muay Thai contest and intends to keep fighting if he wins the big purse.
He's challenged Buakaw to fight him saying that the Thai idol never fights strong opposition.
Buakaw replied that he has never shirked any fighter matched against him, but questioned whether the fans would want him to fight Somluck. "I don't think it would be that good. He should look elsewhere and so will I," Buakaw said "

Buakaw will be promotor and box again next year

From Buakaw Banchamek facebook reported
"

30 August 2012. Mr.Vichai Raksriaksorn, the chairman of Leicester City football club & Group Chairman of King Power Group of Companies, & Mr. Nopporn Wathin, the President of Sport Art Co. Ltd., the

organiser of Thai Fight, held a press c

onference at Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel. They announced their success is organising the international muaythai competition 'Thai Fight King of Muay Thai', as well as their plans for Thai youth to train with Leicester City football team. Also present at the press conference were 4 of the 5 Thai muaythai fighters participating in Thai Fight - Buakaw, Singmanee Sor Srisomphong, Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee & Armin Pumpanmuang.

Mr. Vichai said that they succeeded in organising the last Thai Fight event in Leicester City because they received great support from British fans who flocked to the event, & were able to attract an audience of 10,000. They thus have plans to make Thai Fight an annual event in the UK. They also have plans to select 16 to 18-year-old Thai football players next January for 6 months of training with Leicester City football team, & those who perform well will get to continue for an additional year. Apart from these, King Power also has the idea of establishing a Thai Fight Academy in Leicester City to allow more Britons to learn muaythai & to promote the sport in the UK.

Buakaw said that he is happy that the number of Thai fans interested in muaythai has increased. The next Thai Fight event will be held on 19 September 2012 in Lyon, France & will feature Singmanee, Sudsakorn & Armin. Buakaw however will not be fighting in this event as he is scheduled to fight on 23 October 2012 in Thailand, & will also take on the double duty of being both promoter & fighter for a Thai Fight event that will take place on 6 February 2013. The February event will be held in Surin as a tribute to muaythai fans from his home province for their continued support & sponsorship.

Jomthong demonstrates his punching prowessJomthong demonstrates his punching prowess

World Muay Thai lightweight champion Jomthong Chuwattana showed his punching prowess with an emphatic KO stoppage of rival Thongchai Sitthongsak at Lumpinee on Tuesday.

Jomthong demonstrates his punching prowessJomthong demonstrates his punching prowess
Jomthong, left, is a beautiful kicker and also strong in the grapple.

As well as being a Muay Thai superstar, Jomthong is the reigning Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation champion and wants to be the first fighter to jointly hold world titles for both international boxing and Muay Thai.
There had been talks that Jomthong would have trouble adapting to both combat disciplines at the same time. But if Tuesday's performance is any indication of the Thai champion's multi-talents in the ring, then he has a very real good chance of going all the way to the top in both sports.
There's no doubt that Jomthong is gifted with superb natural fighting talent. For the past three years he has dominated in the Muay Thai ring against top ranked opponents with exquisite aplomb earning him the reputation for having "perfect motion." He's a beautiful kicker and also strong in the grapple. If he has any weakness it would be his tendency to drift through the later rounds after taking control early.
But since turning to professional boxing he has developed a steely resolve to end the contest quickly _ after all 12 rounds of championship boxing is a long game for Thai fighters who are used to five three minute stanzas of ring warfare.
That new found determination to dominate and finish the contest as fast and efficiently as possible was evident in the fight strategy Jomthong adopted against Thongchai, who appeared shell-shocked by his opponent's hard punches and relentless pressure.
The knockout came quickly in the third round after Jomthong's unleashed a barrage of punches. During the second round Thongchai was reeling from the punches and struggled to stand upright.
Before the fight Jomthong said he was looking forward to having an emphatic "away" win, as it wasn't often that he travelled to Lumpinee from his home turf at Rajadamnern.
"Punching is a weapon that is sometimes underrated in Muay Thai," Jomthong told reporters after winning the fight.
Jomthong explained that he has long arms and can throw a punch at distance from all angles.
"The punch travels more distance than an elbow. A fast punch can be a surprise and a dangerous weapon," he said.
Jomthong is likely to defend his OPBF title at Rajadamnern in the near future. A successful defence will get him into the WBC top 20 world rankings for an international title shot and then he can press for the world title.
"I love Muay Thai. Even if I were to win the WBC title I would still cherish holding the WBC Muay Thai world title. Winning the boxing world title would be good for Thai sports, as well as making me a more complete fighter," he said.

Petchbounchoo a Muay Thai Master

Petchbounchoo is already renowned as a Muay Thai master ,when he just 22 years old .
Petchbounchoo  has been fighting at the elite level in Bangkok for four years winning admirers with his extraordinary power fighting style that comes complete with an almost impregnable wall of defence.
Unlike one of his main rival Saenchai Sor Kingstar who is more spectacular with his moves, Petchbounchoo is nevertheless extremely hard to beat, as he's a exceptionally spirited and hardened fighter who always gives his best.
He started his fighting career as a teenager in Udon Thani and moved to Bangkok when he was 17. He had an immediate impact on the top competitors and quickly cemented himself as a main event star.
His latest fight at Lumpinee against  Wanchalerm Aooddonmuang, which he won convincingly by points, showed again why his relentless style of grappling and knee strikes is a formidable winning formula.
Petchbounchoo says he never expects to get an easy fight because he's always being hunted by the superstars seeking notoriety and the rising stars looking for a first class scalp.
Petchboonchu has been reading about the popularity of Muay Thai internationally, and takes an interest in the Thai fighters who have built up fan bases in America and Europe."I've had over 200 professional fights and have won about 70 per cent of the time. The pressure has forced me to settle on a style that has the best chance of winning. What I have to fight with are the most effective body weapons and a hard defence," he said.
"I don't know if my style of fighting would suit the foreigners, they would probably have trouble with my Thai grappling techniques," said Petchbounchoo when asked if he had any plans to fight away from Thailand.
For now travel isn't on his mind.
"I think that I am near the peak of my professional fighting career and want to keep on improving my record against the best Thais in Thailand," he said.
Petchbounchoo lists his top five opponents as Sakeddao, Singdum, Saenchai, F16 and Nong O.

Black Lion aims to score higher

Singdum (Black Lion) Kiatmoo9 will take a giant step forward in becoming a top contender for this year's Muay Thai Fighter of the Year when he steps into the Lumpinee stadium for a big fight on Tuesday.
 Singdum (Black Lion)
While Singdum has been a consistently strong fighter at the elite level of Muay Thai for several years, the big awards for the top Thais have eluded him.Singdum takes on in-form Nong-O Kaiyanghadao in a much-anticipated battle of the bantamweights.
Winning the main event at one of the year's biggest tournaments will go a long way towards getting him into top contention for this year's nominations.
Singdum is one of the strongest boxers at 133 pounds and Nong-O will need to have his long-range kicks firing to win.
Tactics will be a vital factor for this heavy-duty match-up, and should Singdum make the fight a grappling contest he'll be the likely winner.
On the same card, super talented F16 Rachanon will be tested by Diesel Lek Ud Donmuang, and the talented Wanchalerm Ud Donmuang will be firing his full arsenal of weapons _ from the upper and lower body _ to overcome the stamina and endurance of Pechabooncham FA Group in the Lumpinee featherweight showdown.
The following Tuesday (Aug 7), also at Lumpinee, will be the lightweight 121 pounds fight between superstar Sam-A Kaiyanghadao and a heavier flyweight rival in Tong Puidao.
The normally near-perfect Sam-A has had his immaculate sheen dimmed somewhat this year with some shock defeats, and he'll have to be at his best to overcome Tong who is known for having the nasty habit of collecting champion scalps.
Both fighters are defensive conscious before attack and an early stoppage would be most unexpected, as both have huge reputations to protect.
Boxing rap: It's all about the money
When the great Muhammad Ali was king of the ring he did his own publicity and sold out all stadiums when ticket sales were more important than pay-per-view television.
Later on Ali and a string of boxers that included Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson were taken for publicity rides by boxing promoter Don King.
Now just when boxing was establishing itself away from all the extreme publicity hype along comes rapper 50 Cent who's successfully applied for a boxing promoter's licence in New York and with applications pending with the fight commissions in Nevada and California.
50 Cent's got the licence to promote and organise boxing events under his passport name Curtis Jackson and his new company TMT (The Money Team) Promotions has listed ira first client as Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather is staying locked up at the Clark County Detention Center where he's serving time for domestic violence until his expected release from jail on Aug 3.
By then expect that 50 Cent will have all the hype fully activated when the boxer is free and able to continue his life as a professional fighter.
Jackson cum 50 Cent says boxing is all about the money.
As a business he's right on the money in saying that, but if boxing is to stay relevant as a sport in the modern era of cage brawlers the sweet science needs super talented stand-up fighters like Mayweather to perform in the ring with gloves and punches, and hopefully spare the public of all the rap trollop.
It would be lovely if 50 Cent could put a bond between Money Mayweather and Congressman Manny Pacquiao to have them do what they're good at and what the world wants now: To get into the ring and fight.

Saenchai vs. Singdam Lumpinee Stadium lightweight title on September 7th.

Saenchai is likely to have to give away a few pounds in weight and will still start as a strong betting favourite.

Singdam coming in at 133 to Saenchai’s 130 lbs. Having to fight under the weight of his opponent isn't something that bothers Saenchai whose small and powerful body is so superior.
Saenchai  and Singdam have met four times in recent years with Saenchai winning all of the last three fights. But  Singdam is being unbeatable in recent months.

Muay Thai towards Olympic Recognition

Muay Thai towards Olympic Recognition

Muaythai is going for IOC recognition. It has been a long road but April 3 will mark another historic day
in the history and future of muaythai. The world Govening Body for Professional Muaythai (WMC), the
international Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA), recognised by SportAccord, the Olympic Council
of Asia and the Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage have joined forces to
officially apply for IOC recognition and membership. The WMC was established in 1995 under the
directive of the Royal Thai Government to foster and promote the sport and art of muaythai. The Royal
Thai Government is in full support of the lOC recognition process and the Prime Minister of Thailand has
donated a special cup to the event and will be part of the event, together with the Deputy Prime
Minister, Tourism & Sports Minister and Culture Minister. The President of the Thai NOC, SAT and many
other government departments will be joining as VIPs.
IFMA is the World Federation to promote amateur muaythai to the highest level and has been a partner
of the WMC since its inauguration. General Pichitr Kullavanijaya, Privy Councillor of His Majesty the King,
the honorary President of the WMC and the President of the Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand
which is under Royal Patronage, is also the President of IFMA. Muaythai under IFMA is included in many
multi-sports games, was recognised by the Olympic Council of Asia in 1998, and with an overwhelming
majority vote in 2006, was included in SportAccord, a partner of the IOC, the umbrella organisation for
all sports. Muaythai under IFMA is also part of the World Combat Games, also under patronage of the
IOC, in which fifteen Olympic and non-Olympic combat sports work together under the umbrella of
SportAccord. IFMA is the only federation which can apply for IOC membership and inclusion in other
important multi-sports games, for example, the World Games or University Games.

A special gala event will be held and attended by the President of SportAccord, Mr. Hein Verbruggen,
the President of the International World Games Association, Mr. Ron Froehlich, and IOC member Dr. C.
K. Wu, who is also the President of AIBA, along with many others. These distinguished visitors highlight
the respect and recognition muaythai has achieved within the international sporting community.

“Kick the Habit” Challenge a SAAMF Success!

Kick the Habit

As many of you know, July 18th was Nelson Mandela’s birthday. The WMC and IFMA member SAAMF celebrated this momentous day with the 67 Minute “KICK THE HABIT” Muaythai Challenge. Three of the federation’s development Muaythai champions kicked pads for the entire 67 minutes to help raise funds for the Muaythai Against Drugs Foundation, to which they belong.
The three boys, Akhona Mngibisa aged 18 (South African Middleweight Champion), Mkhululi Mlanjeni aged 15 (South African Flyweight Champion) & Monwabisi Qampa aged 12, managed a grand total of 7756 kicks and managed to raise R15 000 for the Muaythai Against Drugs Foundation.
We would like to thank the three boys for their hard work, as well as everyone who came to help with support and hold pads for them. SAAMF in particular would also like to thank Knead Bakery for supplying the boys with some of the best healthy baked foods to keep them going, and last but not least, Ryan Berkowitz, Jannie Schoeman, PSS, McCarthy’s Auto Trimmers & Schekters Organic Energy Drink, for their financial & product contributions.
“Wow, these kids made my heart pump! Seeing them give their all for the full 67 minutes without stopping just reminds me more as to why I set up and run the Muaythai Against Drugs Foundation”  Sifu Kru Quentin ‘Dragon’ Chong – Director of the Muaythai Against Drugs Foundation South Africa.
This will be an annual event in South Africa from now on, and we challenge all of you out there, corporate or private, to get involved and help us make these kids’ dreams come true.

UK entrepreneur Hearn latches onto Muay Thai

British sports event entrepreneur Barry Hearn flew into Bangkok last weekend and clinched a deal with BEC Tero director Brian Marcar to stage seven Muay Thai world titles at the Battle for the Belts II to be staged in London in October.
The event will be televised live in Europe and Thailand.
Hearn has pioneered world snooker championships and professional darts events as well as the Prize Fighter Boxing Series and he now views Muay Thai as the next big wave for combat fighting.
While in Bangkok, Hearn said he had been impressed with the elite quality and professionalism of both Thai and foreign fighters who won the inaugural Battle for the Belts event held last month at Muang Thong Thani's Impact Arena.
Hearn intends to bill the London event as the "Magnificient Seven of Muay Thai _ the ultimate stand-up martial art."
Already Hearn has set up a meeting with representatives of over 200 affiliated Muay Thai training gyms in the UK and is looking for the best British fighters to battle for glory at the super seven WBC Muay Thai championships.
Hearn is looking at having at least three top British challengers fired up to win in front on their "home" London stage soon after the Olympics.
Some of the world title match-ups that Hearn is discussing with BEC Tero includes assigning the best British challengers to fight the top two WBC Thai champions _ Sakeddao Petchpayatai (super-lightweight) and Kem Sitsongpeenong (super-welterweight).
Sakkeddao is likely to fight UK star Greg Wotton and Kem will go up against top British contender Jordon Watson.
Outstanding reigning French welterweight champion Fabio Pinca is expected to do battle against the "British Lion" Liam Harisson.
The main event will feature Steve Wakeling, the Muay Thai pride of Great Britain.
Wakeling fought a draw with Russia's light-heavyweight champion Artem Levin two weeks ago.
And either Levin or American Joe Shilling can be billed to fight Wakeling for the Battle for the Belts II to unify the WBC Muay Thai world light-heavyweight title.
Wakeling is a former WBC middleweight champion who also won the S1 Championship in Bangkok when he was fighting as a super-welterweight.
The British star has relished going up the weight divisions to fight as a light-heavyweight, which suits his style of repetitious punch/knee/kick strikes.
After dominating the light-heavyweight division for several years, Levin now finds himself being hotly challenged by both Schilling and Wakeling.
Levin withdrew from a title fight against the aggressive Schilling, and is now wary of Wakeling who many believe beat him in a recent London draw decision.
Levin will most likely be given the opportunity to fight Wakeling for the WBC title in the Battle for the Belts but will eventually have to fight Schilling who won the interim title while Levin was recovery from surgery to overcome a knee lock ailment.
Another titan showdown is looming in the super-cruiserweight division with Russia's Ramazan Ramazanov likely to challenge Australian world champion Steve McKinnon.
Wakeling will start as warm favourite to win against either Levin or Schilling and Harrison will have a good chance of beating Pinca.
BEC Tero is in talks with event organises in Japan, the US and Australia with a plan to have a calendar of six Battle for the Belts events every year.
